Figure Drawing & Anatomy for Artists
I have been studying the human form since I was a kid reading comic books. Always wanting to draw Spider-Man and Conan got me started on the path of learning from the comic book greats, Buscema, Byrne, and Kirby, then moving onto more artistic works in Frazetta which paved the way to the Renaissance artists. Also being a fan of going to the gym I would get the monthly Muscle & Fitness mags and study the muscles and how they worked. I never had proper training or life drawing until I went to Sheridan College for animation and learned under the amazing guidance of Jim McCauley and Werner Zimmermann. They gave me a new found appreciation of the importance of studying the skeleton, muscles, fabric, etc. up to line weight and even attitude.
I'm still learning.
Here are samples of sketches, mostly from my classes. Most are approx 10 min studies done in charcoal or conté on newsprint.
